Rae Andrews @ VNV

I’ve been a member of Vision Norfolk Viewfinders for as long as the club has been running – in fact, I am probably the only founder member left. About thirteen years ago I mentioned to the leisure coordinator at Vision Norfolk that I wondered if there was scope for a photography club for sight impaired folks ? And thus, the club was born. Originally known as Effstopeyes, it has recently undergone a bit of a name and image change !
This is a small collection of images from myself for the upcoming Vision Norfolk Viewfinders exhibition at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, running in the latter half of 2025. They include a tribute to my beloved guide dog Biggie, who I lost to cancer in May 2025. He was such a massive part of my life, and of the photography group outings too. It felt only right to honour him in the exhibition. Click on the images to open them full screen.

The Look That Led Me

Biggie’s face is turned in profile, pale golden fur lit by a quiet glow. His deep brown eyes, gentle and soft, gaze forward with quiet certainty – calm, steady, and knowing.
This is the look I trusted with my every step. The look that knew what I needed before I spoke. He led me not just through streets and over crossings, but through all the challenges of my days.
His guidance was more than skill – it was love proved by focus, instinct, and loyalty.

The Look That Loved Me

Biggie perches beside a cast-iron bench, golden coat glowing in the mellow autumn light. Fallen leaves in ochre and rust gather around him. His eyes are fixed on mine – earnest, open, and full of quiet affection. A small doggy smile plays around his soft mouth. His white and neon yellow harness rests across his back, the little blue Guide Dogs badge visible, a symbol of his duty.
This is the look that greeted me every morning, and the one that waited quietly with me when the world felt too much. It was the look of love without words, but it spoke to me louder than any human ever could.

The Path We Walked

Click the play button below for an audio description of this image.

The path is narrow, winding gently through a tunnel of tall trees. Their branches arch overhead like cathedral vaults, filtering sunlight into soft, golden beams that spill onto the narrow lane. The ground is carpeted in crisp fallen leaves, bronze and amber underfoot, as the path stretches away into distant light.
This was one of our regular walks. Through parks and streets, forests and fields, he helped me find freedom, independence and joy in movement. And of course, without him photography outside my home would have been impossible.

Biggie passed away for too young in May 2025 after a mercifully short spell of aggressive cancer. Even though he’s gone, he’s with me still –
in every shaft of sunlight, every leaf on the breeze, every turn of the seasons.

Nature’s Perfection

Photograph of a honeybee clinging to vivid purple lavender, its tiny hairs glowing gold in the muted sunlight. Its wings are almost transparent, catching hints of the green blur beyond. Its face is buried deep in the flower, the black compound eyes catching a soft highlight.

Forest Shadows

Photograph of a single tawny yellow orange mushroom rising from moss and bark, a small fern curling beside it. Behind, soft circles of light turn the forest into a dream of muted lime green and gold.
