Photograph of a child’s shoe with two straps and silver buckles, in a wooden former. The round toe end has a symmetrical pattern of decorative punched holes, which complement the holes and stitching on the straps. The shoe is a light green in colour and is placed on a soft beige short pile carpet.

On Yer Bike

Photograph of a newly renovated mews.

The pristine red brickwork shows off the black painted window frames, railings and old-style lamppost. Against the railings leading up to a closed door rests a black gentleman’s bicycle. The brick weave paving leads out to the main thoroughfare through an ornate metal arch. There is not one person in sight.

This picture could easily have been taken in the 1920’s  – except for the fact that everything looks brand new (save a little bit of green staining around the windows). A closer look adds a subtle dissonance – we see that the bicycle is battery powered and there is a betting shop in the background. Such establishments were illegal until the early 1960’s.

Circle of Light

Photograph of a large circular black wrought iron frame standing within Norwich Cathedral, holding dozens of small, upright white candles. Their flames flicker warmly, casting a golden glow that contrasts with the cool, pale stone walls behind. In the background, rows of simple wooden chairs stretch into the shadows, adding depth and a sense of quiet reverence to the scene.

Optimist

Photograph of a misty morning city street: two people walk under the shelter of a the John Lewis building, past a row of teal-hued hire bikes and a lone scooter. In the distance hazy bright light turns the diminishing road into an ethereal dream scape.
