This is the first landscape shot I took that I ever actually felt quite positive about. Taken on a crisp winter’s morning, with the sun off to the right of the frame and a deep blue sky above, it’s the view from the middle of the pedestrian bridge over the railway near my house. The tracks stretch off into the distance towards Great Yarmouth. On the left of the tracks is a line of dense frost covered autumn toned trees, on the right – scattered stark trunk reveal a dusted white vista beyond them that flattens away into Thorpe Marshes. Sun and shadow dapple the straight railway lines as they speed away into a hazy distance.
I am actually a bit nervous of walking over bridges. And this framing was originally taken with shaky hands, on my mobile phone – just to prove I’d done it. Biggie waited patiently, his breath puffing in the cold air, while I fumbled to take the photo.
When I got home and looked at the image on my mac I realised what a nice shot it would make – if I did it properly. So we went back the next day with my “proper camera”, and fortunately conditions were perfect.
